Getting started
- Install Mint Price Match from the Shopify App Store. The app home shows a short setup checklist.
- Add the button: on the app home click Add button in theme editor. The theme editor opens your product template with the Price match button block ready to add; place it under the price or the add-to-cart button and click Save.
- List the stores you match: Settings → Stores you match. Shoppers see the list. Decide whether to accept links from other stores too (you always review those yourself). Write your price match policy in a sentence or two.
- Check the email: click Send test email on the app home — it goes to your store's email address and shows what a shopper gets when you approve.
How it works
- A shopper clicks the button, pastes the other store's link, enters its price and their email, and ticks the box to be emailed about the request. The size or colour they picked on your page is sent with it. They get a link to a status page on your store.
- Our price is read live from Shopify for the shopper's market: the variant's selling price, never its compare-at price. If your price is already the same or lower, the shopper is told straight away and nothing is stored.
- Approve: creates a unique code in your store (Discounts) worth the difference for one unit, only for that variant, usable once, ending after the hours you set (24 hours to 7 days). The shopper gets it by email and on their status page, with a button that adds it to their cart. You can enter a different amount, and cancel an unused code later.
- Decline: choose a reason or write your own; the shopper is emailed it (you can switch decline emails off).
- Currencies: codes are in your store currency. If the shopper sees another currency, Shopify converts the code at checkout at its current rate, so the app makes the code the same share of your store-currency price; the shopper gets about the difference, a few cents either way.
- Spam protection: a hidden field and timing check for bots, limits per shopper connection (hashed, never stored as an IP address), per email and per store, throwaway email domains blocked, one open request per shopper and item, and requests far below your price flagged.
Price check and automatic approval (Pro)
- For links to sites on your list, the app requests that one page once and reads the price it publishes for search engines (JSON-LD structured data, product meta tags or microdata). It shows "Price found on page" only when the page lists exactly one price, in the shopper's currency, at or below what the shopper entered, and the item isn't marked out of stock. Several prices (variants, sale and regular), no currency or another currency show as "couldn't verify" — always check it's the same item.
- Many large retailers block automated requests or publish no structured data; then the check says it couldn't verify and you decide as usual. The app never follows links on the page and never requests sites that aren't on your list.
- Automatic approval approves a request only if every rule passes: the link is on your list, the price check found the price (unless you untick that), the difference is within your maximum % (and amount, if set), your price hasn't changed, the request isn't flagged, and today's limit isn't reached. The shopper then sees their code within seconds.
Honest limits
- Checkout and Shopify's own emails aren't changed; the shopper uses a normal discount code.
- A code is for one unit's worth of the difference: if a shopper buys more than one, the code still takes off that amount once.
- The status page is on your store, so while your online store is password protected, shoppers need the store password to open it.
- Codes are marked used when Shopify reports a paid order with the code (after Shopify approves the app's access to order data), or when they end.
Common questions
The button doesn't appear. Check that the block is in your live theme's product template, the product isn't a gift card or tagged with your exclude tag, and (on Free) that this month's requests aren't used up.
The app says email sending isn't available. Emails are kept and sent automatically as soon as sending works. Codes are also on the shopper's status page. If it lasts more than a day, contact us.
I changed the app proxy URL. The form sends to /apps/mint-price-match. If you changed that path under Settings → Apps → Mint Price Match → App proxy, change it back.
Plans
Free includes 5 price match requests a month, the button and form, one-click approval with single-use codes, approval and decline emails and the status page; the form shows "Powered by Mint Price Match". When a month's requests are used up, the button is hidden until the 1st of next month (UTC). Pro is $9.99/month after a 7-day free trial and adds unlimited requests, the price check, automatic approval, analytics, CSV export, button style and colour, and removes the "Powered by" line. Plans are chosen and changed on Shopify's plan page (Plans → Choose a plan / Manage plan) and billed by Shopify.
Privacy
See our privacy policy and security policy. In short: we store a shopper's email (encrypted) only to answer their request, never their IP address, and erase emails and links 60 days after a request ends.
